About the Program

Guanajuato, MexicoThe Guanajuato Summer Law Institute offers an introduction to Mexican Law and International Law subjects related to the USA and Latin America.

In addition to the four-week course component, participants in the summer institute can sign up for a two-week judicial or law office externship with a course component on Mexican Legal Systems and Social Development.

The Summer Institute normally enrolls between 60 and 70 students for the four-week summer course. Enrollment in each class is limited to 35 students. Enrollment in the externship component is limited to 20 students. To reserve a space, tuition must be paid in full within two weeks of acceptance into the program.

Students from the U.S., Mexico, Canada and Europe are recruited for the Summer Institute. The enrollment breakdown for 2012 was as follows:

Students can travel to Guanajuato by car, bus or plane. The first scheduled event of the program is a mandatory orientation meeting Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at the Facultad de Derecho, Universidad de Guanajuato. Field trips may be offered. Any student who misses the orientation will be disenrolled from the program.
